An invitation from Alec

Dear friends,

I hope you will come to my painting exhibition at the new Kenneth J. Minnaert Fine Arts Center at South Puget Sound Community College. The show opens Friday, March 9 with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. -- refreshments served -- and will continue through the month of March.

Here is a statement about my paintings from the SPSCC website:
Alec Clayton (Olympia) oil painting – Although abstract and formalist, Alec Clayton’s paintings are informed by nature. He captures the essence of movement and struggle as seen in nature the way a baby bird reaches up for a worm, the way a fish leaps out of water, the sensuous way plant tendrils wind around one another, the way human beings walk, run, and dance. Patterns, such as stripes, dots, and checkerboard, are used as a contrast to, and means of, visually holding in check the more amorphous gestural forms. The paintings are colorful and often bring about a feeling of joyful celebration, but many of them have an ominous or threatening feel beneath the celebratory surface.
I will be showing approximately 15 to 20 paintings. Three to five of these will be new paintings (I'm still working on them and don't know yet how many will be ready). I will also show some older paintings that have never before been seen, plus a few old favorites you might have seen before.

I hope you can make it to the opening and/or see the show. Please forward this to friends.
