I was born in New York City and have lived in Puerto Rico, San Francisco, Vermont, and Mississippi. I now live in Olympia, Washington with my husband, Alec. I’ve always been an activist one way or another. My parents were left wing activists, and I grew up on picket lines and protest marches, making me what is called “a red diaper baby” - the paper I wrote about my family background online from my ‘links’ answers some questions about how I got here. I have been married 30-odd years and am the mother of two sons, Noel and Bill. I’m a mental health counselor & web designer. In 1995 my younger son Bill was assaulted in a hate crime based on his sexual orientation. He committed suicide a month later. Posting his story on my website has been a way for me to turn the pain of his suicide into something that can help end the hate and ignorance, and hopefully save other people from what he went through.
